About Me

“Travel far enough, you meet yourself” — David Mitchell, Could Atlas

Everyone asks, why I love to travel. The easiest answer? I’ve got the travel bug bad.

As soon as I make it back home I’m planning my next move on where I can go next. I am constantly hearing, “When will you settle down?”. “Get a stable job and start saving your money, then you can travel.”

Honestly, I get it, and I understand the fear of not having a stable future. Who’s to say what I’m doing now isn’t carving my own path to a stable future the way I want it? I’m still young, and I have my whole life ahead of me to settle down, so why not make the most of it while I’m young? It may be scary for some people to not have a definite plan on how they want their life to go, but for me, I find comfort in not knowing. I’m not too fond of planning, I don’t find joy in stressing about what will come next. Maybe it’s because I’m extremely indecisive and never know what I want. Or I’m scared of planning for something and it falling apart.

Whatever the reasoning behind it, I am happy with the decisions I’ve made so far and the path it has taken me. Of course, social media had warped my perception of where I needed to be in my life at this moment. But, it is amazing watching everyone I’ve grown up with or met at some point in my life living their dreams and fully becoming themselves. It’s hard to not wonder; maybe I should just stay still for a bit and take that full-time job. Then I remember there is a whole world out there waiting for me! All of these experienced I am making are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life.

One day I will pass down my stories to my children. I hope it will inspire them to see the world through their own eyes. That being said, I would like to teach you a few reasons why I love to travel from my own experiences these past two years. <3

Why I Love to Travel

2018

Graduation was quickly approaching and I had just recently shut down the idea of continuing at my university with the 5-year program to get my master’s. I didn’t like the options that were presented to me but the stress of not having a plan got to me. A friend told me about how they knew someone who taught English in another country and I never googled something so fast in my life. Through endless research, I found information about the different countries you can teach in, the requirements, etc. I had considered going to Asia at first, but I wasn’t ready to be that far away from home. That’s when I found CIEE, an organization that aids in finding different English-speaking teachers for countries around the world. They were advertising their Teach in Spain program that started in the Fall and I applied that night.

Moving to another county sounds like all fun and games. Until you have to go through the endless amounts of paperwork. After months of gathering my documents, I got my Spanish Visa and was on a one-way flight to Madrid! The city instantly amazed me with its rich history, friendly people, and delicious foods. The school I was placed in welcomed me with open arms. I made some friendships that will last me a lifetime and I fell in love.

I loved Spain so much that I renewed to teach for a second year. Somewhere along the way going through all that lovely paperwork, my application got messed up. Instead of being placed in Madrid, I got placed in Palma de Mallorca. Although it was not what I initially wanted, living on an island is pretty dope. It was such a different vibe compared to living in Madrid. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to fully experience it once COVID hit, but Palma will always hold a special place in my heart.

Now that the borders have opened back up, I’ve used this opportunity to make my way back to Spain. I am currently in Madrid working on getting my Masters in International Education at the Universidad de Alcalá. As well I am teaching English in a primary school in the city. I’m very excited to be back and am looking forward to all of the new adventures I will have.
